Current Issue:
Six new independent parcels seek county inclusion to the Oak Harbor UGA inclusion exceeding growth projection by 20%! Four of these concern the Swan Lake watershed that supplies the Swan Lake estuarine wetland. The impact is far reaching. The site is identified as Whidbey Island's primary site for salmon habitat restoration. The Audubon Society identified 109 species on the wetland (1/7th of nation’s birds). On the western and southern boundaries is dense forest, home to a diversity of flora and fauna including: pileated wood peckers, hawks, eagles, heron, island spotted deer and raccoons. The fate of this critical wildlife corridor connecting north and south Whidbey Island may be decided at this meeting.
